Description: Higher ed faculty are often encouraged by employers, professional associations, and accrediting bodies to provide more student experiences with group problem-solving and presentations. This demand creates some potential problems for faculty. Group projects require significant investments of time; they can result in products that may be stellar, but they are sometimes disappointing to students and faculty. Faculty can heighten the efficacy of group projects by fine-tuning or revising assignments. How do we organize and structure groups? What types of projects are best suited to group work? Which evaluation strategies might work best? These issues and more will be addressed in this interactive colloquium. Marlene and Marie will share current research about the use of groups in higher ed and will provide strategies, examples, and grading rubrics. Please bring your questions, ideas, and examples. Share your successes and problems. We will focus on planning for groups in your spring classes.
