Taming the Three-Headed Dog: Using Participatory Design to Integrate e-portfolios into a Graduate Program
    Presenter(s): Lisa McNair   |

Thu, Nov 5, 2009 : 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM : 3060 Torgersen Hall : Register
Description: In this interactive colloquium co-sponsored by FDI and CIDER, Lisa McNair will share strategies for using e-portfolios to help students reflectively track their learning development, prepare professional portfolios, and engage in program evaluation. Although e-portfolios afford all three of these functions, it is often difficult to get "buy-in" from stakeholders and to structure the e-portfolios so that the goals do not conflict. A participatory design approach creates scenarios where students and faculty are authors and beneficiaries of a complex, multi-layered evaluation process. Colloquium participants will engage in discussions about the application and feasibility of participatory design in their own courses and the ways in which integrating ePortfolios may provide students with sustainable self-representations and praxes across personal, professional, and academic domains.

Special Note: co-sponsored by FDI and the VT ePortfolio Initiative
