Description: Have you thought about using portfolios to assess what your students know? Do you teach using Scholar but are uncertain about the link to ePortfolios? Are you interested in rubrics but aren’t sure where to start? Are you using rubrics but would like to learn more? If some of these questions intrigue you, please join Kelly Parkes for this session, sponsored by CIDER, FDI, and the ePortfolio Initiative, about teaching, learning, and assessing with ePortfoflios. She will discuss the goals of using ePortfolios within the Scholar teaching platform, using and creating rubrics, and the general strategies for incorporating these pedagogies into the higher education curriculum. Kelly will provide examples of the ways her department, Teaching and Learning, is using ePortfolios and provide functional activities so participants can learn to develop and use ePortfolios, and rubrics, with their own students. This colloquium will focus on understanding ePortfolios as an assessment tool and provide a demonstration of the variety of uses rubrics have within ePortfolios, as well as an explanation/demonstration of how to create a rubric for almost any teaching and learning setting. Participants will also have the opportunity to create their own rubrics, given their own disciplinary goals. The strategies presented in this workshop are appropriate for small to moderately-sized classes, with an emphasis on learner-centered assessment and peer assessment techniques. Participants will explore the practical benefits of portfolio-based assessment, and the benefits rubrics can bring as formative and summative assessments with ePortfolio methodologies. No prior knowledge of ePortfolios or rubrics necessary; however, participants should have a basic familiarity with Scholar prior before registering for this session. |
