    Presenter(s): Joan Monahan Watson   |

Description: What does it mean for Virginia Tech to have a “common book” or to promote a “common experience”? How might such a university-wide initiative impact teaching and learning across campus? In this “rubber meets the road” session, participants will discuss the value of a common book/common experience program, not only in terms of community development and student engagement, but also with respect to their own discipline-specific curricular imperatives and instructional methodologies. We will consider the ways in which such “common ground” may serve as a universal metaphor to facilitate authentic and integrated teaching and learning opportunities across disciplines.

Special Note: co-sponsored by FYE, FDI, VT ePortfolio Initiative, and the Office of Academic Assessment
