Past Winners of the Teacher of the Week

Richard Parsons

The Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research (CIDER) recognizes Richard Parsons, instructor of Hospitality and Tourism Management, for his success incorporating hospitality industry case studies and data financial management of hotel and restaurant properties into his courses.

Rick came to VT HTM after a 30-year career with Marriott International. He has very effectively used his industry experience and contacts to obtain real data from hotels concerning their financial performance, which he has used to incorporate experiential learning opportunities into the curriculum, dramatically enhancing student learning and applied management capabilities. Rick teaches HTM 3444: Financial Management and Cost Control and MGT 4394: Business Policy and Strategy.

Rick has previously been recognized by the Pamplin College of Business for his teaching success. His teaching evaluations are consistently among the very best for all Hospitality Tourism Management (HTM) classes. When he has presented his teaching activities to the VT HTM Industry Advisory Board, they have been extremely happy and continue to feel that his students are learning exactly what they need to be successful.
