Past Winners of the Teacher of the Week

Mike Ellerbrock

The Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research (CIDER) recognizes Mike Ellerbrock, professor of Agricultural and Applied Economics, for his ability to 'draw out' (educare) the best in students.

Quickly learning their names, Mike asks students lots of questions, listens to their answers, and critiques their logic. His rhetorical method of pedagogy elicits a sense of stakeholdership in discovery and ownership of what students have learned.

Mike is Virginia Tech's first/only recipient of USDA's prestigious "National Award for Teaching Excellence for Agriculture, Natural Resources, Human & Veterinary Sciences," as well as the University's Wine and Sporn Awards, Student Choice Award (twice), and Southern Agricultural Economics Association's Outstanding Teaching Award.
