Past Winners of the Teacher of the Week

Wen You

The Center for Instructional Development and Educational Research (CIDER) recognizes Wen You, assistant professor of Agricultural and Applied Economics, for fostering students' interests in food, nutrition and health economics, equipping students with the knowledge and tools to conduct research, and effectively promoting critical thinking skills.

"I use video clips from Britain’s Got Talent to show students that omitting important variables (such as actual singing ability) from winning prediction equations will result in biased prediction; I also motivate students through applying the classroom knowledge to answer real-world questions such as presidential election prediction, tuition increase effects on student enrollment, etc."

AAEC Department Head Kevin Boyle says that Wen's most notable achievements have been teaching very difficult courses in economic statistics in a meaningful way that students can learn basic concepts in the context of practical applications. When she taught AAEC 4804 - Elementary Econometrics, she received an overall rating from all students of 4.0.
